The Chicago Bulls may have a new coach next season.

ESPN sources are now claiming that the team will soon let go of coach Tom Thibodeau, who still however has around $9 million left in his contract. There is a chance that the team will not have to shoulder the entire amount due to the league's set-off provision.

Insiders have informed Chicago Tribune that a resolution regarding the status of Thibodeau as the Bulls coach will be finalized on Friday and that Iowa State coach and former Bulls guard Fred Hoiberg is the top choice to replace him.

According to ESPN's insider information, the tension started when misunderstanding erupted between Thibodeau and the Bulls management, which only worsened when the team was not able to win a second-round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, despite the Cavs having two of their best players injured.

In the end, the Bulls questioned Thibodeau’s "offensive schemes, handling of the roster and minute distribution," wrote the Tribune.

While the Bulls is working to get rid of Thibodeau, Scott Skiles has surfaced as one of the front runners for the vacant coaching position for the New Orleans Pelicans, as well as the Orlando Magic, ESPN reported in a separate article.

For the Pelicans, Skiles will be competing against Alvin Gentry, the associate head coach of the Golden State Warriors, and ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy. Rumor has it that Magic was initially eyeing Thibodeau, but has now dropped him for a chance to hire Skiles.

It would appear that a lot of today’s teams have their eyes set on Skiles. He used to play for Magic and is reportedly strongly supported both by the owners of the Orlando team and the CEO, himself, Alex Martins. The general manager of the Pelicans, Dell Demps, is also a huge fan of Skiles, especially since he played for the former Magic baller when he coached in Greece.
