In the wake of fans devastation that Patrick Dempsey's character Derek Shepherd was killed off "Grey's Anatomy," ABC is looking to add a new male hunk to the medical drama in Season 12, reports TVLine.

According to a source with knowledge about the show's casting, Shonda Rhimes is on the hunt for a "name" actor in his late 30s to late 40s to play a doctor on the show. The requirements of a potential actor for the role: charismatic, good-looking and believable as a surgeon.

Rhimes told TVLine in April that the "Grey's Anatomy" post-Derek era will bring many changes and new direction to the storyline.

"Now, Meredith and the entire Grey's Anatomy family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say, the carousel never stops turning," Rhimes said.

In addition to a new male doctor to appease fans, rumors indicate that Dr. Izzie, played by Katherine Heigl, may return to "Grey's Anatomy." Heigl's character was not killed off when the actress left the show in Season 8.

Heigl has publicly expressed a desire to return to "Grey's Anatomy" if there is a good storyline for Izzie. It would certainly pique the interest of fans to know what happened to Izzie and if she has become successful.

"Grey's Anatomy" actress Jerrika Hinton, who portrays Dr. Stephanie Edwards, said in a recent interview with VIBE magazine that saying goodbye to Patrick Dempsey in Season 11 and Sandra Oh in Season 10 was difficult.

"I think it involves a lot of recalibrating. You mourn the loss and unfortunately in both of those cases, internally as a family, we knew it was going to happen, and we got to have our grieving process with the people while they were there," Hinton told VIBE.

"Once huge members of your family leave, you celebrate them when you can while they're there and it's less about feeling whole. It's more about how do we continue to move along as a family."

The loss of favorite characters is a tough pill to swallow for fans, but it also means exciting possibilities for new characters, romance and experiences for the Grey Sloan Memorial doctors.

When asked about the coming Season 12, Hinton said that Stephanie will be tasked with managing a new set of interns. While Hinton could not dish on romantic developments for Stephanie, she liked the fan theory of a possible love interest with one of the interns.

"It's a gift when [fans] can trust you with a journey," Hinton said, referring to her character.
