Hollywood veterans Frances Fisher ("Resurrection," "Titanic") and Michael O'Keefe ("Homeland," "Caddyshack") will be joining the cast on the July 12 premiere of "Masters of Sex" on Showtime, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Fisher and O'Keefe will portray Virginia Johnson's (Lizzy Caplan) parents in an upcoming episode of the show as guest stars for two episodes.

This will come as a surprise to Virginia, who sees a lot of criticism from her mother in different areas, including her chosen career and her lifestyle at home. It sounds almost typical of an aging mother in that time period. There is no word yet what kind of arc her father will be playing in the two episodes.

CarterMatt points out a few interesting things to note.

The first is that it is a common idea that your upbringing influences the person you are and your personality. It might be a little far-fetched, though, to think that Virginia's mother was a sexually intrigued woman, but one might have to wonder.

But she is also a woman who knows what she wants, and she turned her secretarial job working for Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) into an intriguing new career, which was also a theme present in "Mad Men" for the character of Peggy (Elisabeth Moss).

So that might be an indicator of what she could have gotten from her parents, in terms of how they influenced her through raising her in their own image.

This also brings us into a season where Masters has gone from being a laughing stock of the scientific community to a more admired and revered Doctor of Science and advancement.

His own thoughts and opinions will no doubt be cast with a looming shadow over his former self, but he will be respected for his research.

EW also notes that this is the year that the groundbreaking journal "Human Sexual Response" by both Masters and Johnson will be revealed to the world.
