PlayStation 4 has the clear edge in sales over its rival counterpart, Microsoft's Xbox One, but some people are making the argument that sales numbers alone should not define which game console is better than the other.

Microsoft's Australasian vice president of sales and marketing, Alan Bowman, seemed to say that it is rather a long term process -- and he is right. Microsoft and Sony butted heads in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 battle for more than a half decade.

"We're optimistic about this generation as well," Bowman said. "We've got a unique value proposition, and from just a pure specs perspective it's always gonna be fairly marginal difference," he continued. "The purists are gonna argue the toss, but I think it comes down to the games. You're gonna see great exclusive games on Xbox One, and when you look at the cross-platform games, and there's gonna be exclusive content on Xbox One."

One of the key differences between the two consoles is that the Xbox One is sold in fewer markets than the PlayStation 4. This is a common misconception considering that Xbox One had a wider worldwide launch on Day 1, but the PlayStation 4 has since gone global even more than the Xbox One.

Perhaps the Xbox One will see a boost in sales soon after Microsoft spreads its sales efforts to more than just the 13 countries it currently operates in.

"We'd like to be in more markets -- this is a global business--but it's also a long-term business, and we'll progressively launch in more markets over the coming year," Bowman said.
