The latest James Bond film "Spectre" has not hit theaters yet, but people are already buzzing about which actor will take the coveted role as the next Bond.

One man in the running could make history if he's chosen: "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" star Idris Elba. If chosen, Elba would be the first black Bond.

Not only is the 42-year-old Elba British, he is also naturally ultra-suave and an expert on looking dapper. The Golden Globe award-winning actor, hip-hop musician and DJ is launching a menswear line with Superdry that features clothing befitting an international spy with its snug-fitting knits, bomber jackets, wool blazers and luxuriously soft cashmere-mix sweats.

While having his name thrown into the hat for the role of Bond is flattering, Elba said the ongoing speculation is futile, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

"Honestly, it's a rumor that's really starting to eat itself," he told the audience at London's British Film Institute on Tuesday. "If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it's gone."

Elba also said that discussions with Bond producers "never happened."  He blamed the current 007 for starting the gossip.

"Daniel Craig actually set the rumor off. About four years ago he said Idris Elba would be a great Bond, and then it started to creep," he said. "I blame Daniel."

The actor recently finished shooting the fourth season of "Luther," which will air as a two-part special on BBC America later this year. There is also talk of a possible spinoff film.

While Elba may believe there is no chance he'll be the next Bond, Variety reports that Britain's largest bookmaker, William Hill, still favors him to take the role at odds of 5-to-2. In addition to Elba, the odds that "Homeland" actor Damian Lewis will get the role are 3-to-1. Other actors being considered include Tom Hardy (4-to-1), Henry Cavill (5-to-1), Michael Fassbender (7-to-1) and Orlando Bloom (12-to-1).
