Authorities revealed that former White House executive chef Walter Scheib was found dead on Sunday in the mountains of New Mexico during a hiking trip.

A spokesperson for the New Mexico State Police said the body of the former chef was discovered near Taos, New Mexico, but no foul play is suspected in his death, reports ABC News. The cause of death is still being investigated.

Scheib's body was lying about 30 yards from the hiking trail where his car was last seen. The 61-year-old chef was last seen on June 13, which is the day that he went hiking on a trail in the Taos Ski Valley, 10 miles from Taos. He was then reported missing by a family member last Wednesday.

On Thursday, investigators used Scheib's cell phone signal to track him to a mountain in Taos, according to a press release from the New Mexico State Department of Public Safety. His car was also discovered by investigators Tuesday at the Yerba Canyon Trailhead.

"The body was discovered off the immediate trail approximately 1.7 miles from the base of the trail. No further details are available at this time. Rescue workers are still gathering information," New Mexico State Police public information Officer St. Elizabeth Armijo said in a statement.

Scheib served as the top chef under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, preparing daily meals and state dinners. He is noted for introducing the White House with New American-style cuisine. After working in the White House for 11 years, Scheib was then hired by then-first lady Hillary Clinton as a personal chef, according to Scheib's official website.

"Hillary and I are saddened by the tragic passing of former White House executive chef Walter Scheib," the Clintons said in a statement Monday.

"Our family was grateful to have Walter with us in the White House for six years, where we and visitors from around the world loved his delicious and creative meals," the statement said, reports CNN. "Walter used his immense talents not only to represent the very best of American cuisine to visiting leaders, but to make a difference in people's lives across the country through his support of numerous charities. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends.

Former first Lady Laura Bush also issued a statement about Scheib, saying: "Walter was an outstanding talent. He prepared magnificent dinners for world leaders and delicious family fare for our family and friends."
