While fans have been eagerly waiting for the next season of ABC's medical TV drama "Grey's Anatomy" this fall, recent casting renewals hint that the show will be around for years to come -- at least three, to be exact.

Jessica Capshaw, the actress who plays Dr. Arizona Robbins, has signed a new three-year-contract with "Grey's Anatomy" showrunners, reports TV Line. Her contract expired in May prior to the renewal.

While waiting for the hit medical drama to return with Season 12, fans are asking, "Who will become the new chief of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital?"

In the Season 11 finale, Catherine Avery wanted April Kepner to become Chief of Surgery.

"I don't think she would have any interest in being chief," Sarah Drew, who plays April, told Entertainment Weekly. "There's so much paperwork. You get buried in the politics of the hospital. All she wants to do is get her hands dirty. She wants to be in traumatic situations, fixing and healing people. She has found herself to be a healer in a pretty dramatic way that goes beyond being a surgeon. There's something that spiritual for her."

Richard Webber made it clear last season that he wants Miranda Bailey to take over as the Chief of Surgery, a position she has been coveting for years.

If April doesn't want the prestigious title, who will Catherine nominate next? Could it be Arizona?

Meanwhile, New Zealand-born actor Martin Henderson has been selected to portray the show's new male doctor. Henderson is best known as the male lead in Shonda Rhimes' brief 2011 medical drama "Off the Map."

It was previously reported that Rhimes has been on the hunt for an actor to play a handsome new surgeon to appease fans still grieving the loss of Derek Shepherd.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
