Since Katherine Heigl left "Grey's Anatomy" in 2010, fans have wondered if she would ever return to the popular ABC series.

In the wake of Patrick Dempsey's exit from the show, it would seem like a smart move for showrunners to bring back a familiar face in the upcoming season.

On Monday, Heigl set the record straight about rumors of her return during an interview with "Entertainment Tonight."

"Entertainment Tonight" asked Heigl if there was any truth to the rumor that she will return to "Grey's Anatomy" for Season 12 as Izzie.

"There is not, I'm sorry," she said.

More interesting is what the actress said when the reporter asked if she would consider reentering the realm of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Three years ago she told TVLine that she would be interested.

"If they want me to return for an arc, I would love to know where Izzie is now," she said.

Her response to the question on Monday was a bit more awkward.

"I think that... I don't know how to answer that, I'm sorry," she said.

Heigl also revealed that though she has starred in movies and NBC's "State of Affairs," fans still talk about her five-year role on "Grey's Anatomy."

"There was this 13-year-old girl who was telling me this weekend how much she loves Grey's Anatomy, and I was like, do you realize you were a 1-year-old when we started the show? It's been that long since it's been on the air," Heigl said. "It changed the course of my life and my career, and I couldn't be more grateful. I just hope it goes for as long as they all want it to."

In the segment, Heigl spoke on the death of "Grey's Anatomy" character Derek Shepherd. She said that she was "devastated" over the death.

"I just can't imagine the show without McDreamy," she said. "It's just so hard to picture."

Heigl and Ben Barnes spoke with "Entertainment Tonight" to promote their new indie movie "Jackie & Ryan."
