Netflix has been the hero to many fans -- saving, reviving or revisiting some of TV's greatest shows and Hollywood's biggest films in the form of original serialized episodes. That is also the case now with Lemony Snicket's novel series, "A Series of Unfortunate Events," according to BuzzFeed News.

But now that the trailer for the show has dropped, the Internet has been buzzing about the Gothic tale for younger audiences last played out on-screen in film by Jim Carrey ("Ace Ventura," "Bruce Almighty"), Emily Browning ("Suckerpunch," "Sleeping Beauty") and Liam Aiken ("Electrick Children").

The Netflix series is based on Daniel Handler's series of books, which he wrote under the pen name of Lemony Snicket and acted as the narrator in the series, according to The Verge.

Although the first film had fairly mediocre returns based off box-office receipts, it also only featured content from the first three books in Handler's series.

But now that Netflix has undertaken the production, the series will include much more input from Handler, and it will be produced under the original banner from the book series.

The trailer for the upcoming show, which will stream exclusively on Netflix, is somewhat vague but revealing enough of the Gothic atmosphere so inherent to the source material.

The story seems to be timeless, given that many of the material in the novels featured technology such as telegraphs and cars that were considered upper-class in the 1930s. But there were also times when the reader was told about fiber-optic cables.

The trailer hails to the older version of the story, which features early 20th century phonographs and record players. It even features a squeamish shot of a spider and the ensuing mortality of all things, but you will need to watch the trailer below to see what that means.

There has been no date released for when the series will be available on the streaming platform.
