This weekend the box office will continue to surge as two of the most anticipated films of the year will be released. The first major film will be "Ant-Man" from Marvel and "Trainwreck" from Judd Apatow.

"Ant-Man": Marvel will begin a new series to continue its successful Avengers films. Starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, the film tells the story of "con-man Scott Lang who must embrace his inner hero and his new suit in order to pull off a heist that will save the world." The film comes a few months after "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which was a huge box office hit. Reviews for the film are mixed with many critics noting that it is nothing original.

However, fan boys will likely make this the number one film of the weekend. Expectations for the film are fairly average with many predicting it to open with $70 million.

"Trainwreck": Amy Schumer and Bill Hader star in Apatow's latest film about a career driven woman who fears commitment. However, she must face her fears when she meets a different type of guy. The movie has been receiving rave reviews by critics noting that Schumer is a comic force. Universal, which is behind some of this year's biggest hits, has also given it a huge marketing campaign that has promoted Apatow's name. With few comedies in the marketplace, it is expected that the film will open with at least $30 million or more.

"Irrational Man": Joaquin Phoenix is back in theaters in Woody Allen's latest film. The new film tells the story of a tormented philosophy professor who finds a will to live when he commits an existential act. Also starring Emma Stone, the movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it received mixed reviews and played out of competition. Reviews continue to be mixed and Sony Pictures Classics is giving the film a modest marketing boost. The film is slated to open in New York and Los Angeles and will alter expand nationwide.

"Mr. Holmes": Ian McKellen and Bill Condon are reuniting for a new take on Sherlock Holmes. The new film tells the story of an aged, retired Sherlock Holmes who grapples with an unsolved case involving a mysterious woman. During the investigation, he begins to look back at his youth. The movie premiered at the Berlin Film Festival where it received praise and McKellen received awards buzz.

McKellen and Condon first worked on "Gods and Monsters" back in 1998 and that film led the actor to an Oscar nomination. If the film is a success, then perhaps McKellen could be up for awards this upcoming fall. Roadside Attractions will release the film in limited release and later expand it.

"The Standford Prison Experiment": The new film from Kyle Patrick Alvarez tells the story of 24 male students who are picked to play the roles of prisoners and guards in a mock prison situated at the Stanford psychology building. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where it scored rave reviews and won the screenwriting award. IFC Films will release the movie on VOD and theaters with hopes of luring all types of audiences.

The weekend will also see the release of "Lila & Eve" starring Jennifer Lopez and Viola Davis and the documentary hit "The Look of Silence."

The Cannes hit "El Ardor" will also be released as well as Janus Films' "Jellyfish Eyes." Picturehouse will release "Gloria" while Zeigeist will open "Court." The last two films opening will be Hannover House's "Bonobos: Back to the Wild" and Oscilloscope's "Catch Me Daddy."
