There's an ongoing rumor that undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has already picked his next opponent for his scheduled bout in September, and that is none other than former champion Andre Berto.

The speculation that the Forbes' 2015 World's Highest Paid Athlete has picked his opponent for the September fight in Las Vegas started when Michael Woods revealed it on The Sweet Science. The match is also rumored to be aired via CBS and not under pay-per-view arrangement under HBO. "The Money" is set to be paid $30-35 million, which is almost a tenth of what he reportedly got from his last bout against Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, as stated on Forbes.

However, Los Angeles Time's Lance Pugmire wrote that the Mayweather vs. Berto match is still premature, but he did not deny the possibility of the fight being aired through CBS, citing boxing officials as his source.

Amir Khan's Reaction

It is out in the open that no one wants to be in this September fight more than World Boxing Council Silver welterweight title holder Amir Khan. The British fighter was disappointed when he first heard that Mayweather picked Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield as his possible foes.

"I think he's messing his own legacy up. He needs to finish on a high. What he's probably going to do is leave the game on a low and I think that's the worst thing to do," Khan told RingCast.

Yet, he again became optimistic when recent news included him in the mix of choices. He then kept training so that he will not be "caught off guard" just in case Mayweather announces his name anytime soon. Now, he tweets that he also heard about this rumor and seems to be accepting it as almost true.

But there might be a glimmer of hope, though.

"There are still talks that the Mayweather fight might still happen for me", said Khan, as quoted by Sentinel.

Berto's Statement

Now that all eyes are on Berto, the Haitian-American's camp has opted not to make an official statement yet as they downplayed rumors of the fight until Mayweather confirms it himself.

"I'm happy to be in the running for this fight and am definitely up for the challenge. I know it will be a great fight if it happens," Berto said in a press release, as quoted by BoxingScene.
