The GLAAD nominations for 2014 have been announced, and superstars Elton John and Lady Gaga are amongst the list of nominees for this year's awards!

It should be no surprise that gay and lesbian icons Elton John and Lady Gaga made the list of nominees. Both have been longtime supporters of the gay and lesbian community, and have expressed their support through their songs and their behavior (John is gay, married to his longtime boyfriend David Furnish, with whom he has an adopted son; Gaga is straight).

Some of the nominations include nominations for Best Digital Article, Best Talk Show Episode, and Best Film (both Limited and Wide Release).

In a press release posted on The Huffington Post, the organization made clear that they honor "outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in areas including music, movies, TV and journalism. On Thursday, GLAAD announced 93 nominees in the English-language categories, with cable channels earning 28 bids and broadcast networks receiving 11. Netflix earned its first nomination for the series 'Orange Is the New Black.' There are 37 Spanish-language nominees, including a stand-alone bid in the novella category for Univision's 'Amores Verdaderos,' which included the wedding of a gay couple. The GLAAD Media Awards will be presented in Los Angeles and New York this spring."

Other notable nominees include Vampire Weekend, Tegan and Sarah, Cyndi Lauper, Glee, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Dallas Buyer's Club, and August Osage County.

The GLAAD Media Award is an accolade bestowed by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to recognize and honor various branches of the media for their outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the issues that affect their lives. In addition to film and television, the Awards also recognize achievements in other branches of the media and arts, including theatre, music, journalism and advertising.
