In "Zoo" Episode 5, "Blame It On Leo," Mitch Morgan (Billy Burke) entered an Alabama college science laboratory to study the wolf blood his team collected in the previous episode. He found a bacteria that is the cause of the animals' affliction -- a bacteria created by a former Reiden Global employee named Leo Butler.

The team found Leo's name written on pages of a Bible belonging to escaped death row inmate Evan Lee Hartley (Marcus Hester).

Jackson Oz (James Wolk) and Jamie Campbell (Kristen Connolly) tracked down Leo who told them that it is a vector causing the widespread mutation of the animals' cells and their aberrant behavior. The vector exists in every product that Reiden Global manufactures and sells, Leo revealed.

Leo agreed to take Jamie to where the mother vector was stored and give it to her. FBI Agent Ben Shafer (Geoff Stults) enabled the GPS tracking on Leo's cell phone to track them.

Leo and Jamie went to a remote location and retrieved the vector. Upon leaving, their vehicle was T-boned by another car. Inside the overturned vehicle, Jamie saw Evan approach the car and take the tube containing the mother vector.

Chloe Tousignant (Nora Arnezeder), Mitch and Abraham Kenyatta (Nonso Anozie) visited Rio de Janeiro to investigate bats attacking the city. Chloe discovered the bats are attracted to electromagnetic waves. The team started erecting a cellular antenna in an open field to lure the bats when thugs appeared and attacked Mitch.

Meanwhile, a girl's seizure alerting dog named Henry was struck by a car. The girl's stepfather, Justin Lewis, took Henry to the veterinarian. When he returned home with Henry, the girl's mother, Audra Lewis, put up a picture of her ex-husband Mitch holding Henry as a puppy. In the next scene, viewers saw a bottle of pain reliever made by Reiden Global.

In "Zoo" Episode 6, "This Is What It Sounds Like," Jackson reveals to Jamie and Agent Shaffer that Evan has the same mutation to his eyes as seen in the deviant animals.

Meanwhile, Evan visits a doctor and asks him to do something for him. We don't know what until the episode airs, but the video clip shows the physician preparing to inject something into Evan's face with a large syringe.

While attempting to solve the Rio de Janeiro bat problem, Mitch and Chloe are kidnapped by a local drug lord. In a sneak peek of the episode, Mitch and Chloe explain to the drug kingpin that they were trying to solve the city's bat issue. The drug lord complains about having no cell phone service to operate his business. The pair tells him that if he releases them, they can help restore it. It doesn't seem that he sets them free as the official CBS synopsis for the episode states that Abraham must come to their rescue.

Jackson, Jamie and Agent Shaffer search for Evan to recover the mother vector. Jamie's efforts land her in trouble with the FBI.
