Former eight-division boxing champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao could still get a shot against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr., that is, if he shows amazing fighting form and defeat Amir Khan in their possible match next year.

Recently, Khan confirmed that Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, reached out to him so that they can stage a summer showdown with the Filipino icon next year.

"Bob Arum has contacted my team to fight Manny Pacquiao around March or April in Dubai. Let's see how that develops... Since Floyd is running scared, I want Pacquiao in 2016 when he is back from his injury; 2016 will be Amir Khan's year," Khan told The National.

The British boxer is excited about his potential match with "Pacman," which could be staged in Dubai, because he knows it has the potential to become a "massive fight" due to the large Filipino, British and Pakistani communities in the city, Sport360 informed.

Khan vs. Pacquiao : A Final Eliminator for Mayweather?

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that the possible Pacquiao-Khan fight in Dubai can be regarded as a final eliminator battle that will get the attention of Mayweather. This means, the 36-year-old fighter can still avenge his loss against "The Money," should he win.

"Pacquiao is an elite fighter. There are no doubts about his ability and his great stature as a fighter, so that is absolutely no issue. I saw that he could soon be back in the ring (early 2016) and Pacquiao is a fighter that deserves the opportunity because he is a legendary fighter. If he would have retired after the Mayweather fight that would not have been fair to his legacy," Sulaiman told World Boxing News.

In order for Pacquiao to face Mayweather in a WBC sanctioned fight, he must beat the WBC Silver welterweight title holder to be the mandatory challenger for Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"Amir Khan is the silver champion and a wonderful fighter and a true representative of the best of boxing. Amir Khan has always been very loyal to the WBC, and of course, any fight with Manny Pacquiao could be a final elimination for the WBC welterweight title - without a doubt," Sulaiman added.

Mayweather is... retiring?

Mayweather already announced that Andre Berto will be his 49th and final foe in the ring so a rematch with Pacquiao is still a question mark.

Also, even is Arum wants "Pacman" to have another showdown with Mayweather, the undefeated boxer himself is not inclined to clash with him again.
