NASCAR '14 is coming to the PS3 and the Xbox 360 but it is reportedly passing up on next gen game console release, reports Sports Illustrated.

"We took a good, hard look at it, but there just isn't enough hardware out there yet to justify the cost of development," game maker Eutechnyx' Executive Vice President, Ed Martin told Sports Illustrated.

"The nail in the coffin was when a guy from Sony talked about Gran Turismo, and how their new game was launching on PS3. He said something like, 'Why would we put Gran Turismo on a console that has zero units in the market when there are 150 million PlayStation 3s out there?'" continued the game studio exec.

According to Martin, Eutechnyx would have to spend $6 million to develop a next gen version for NASCAR '14. Should a next gen version of NASCAR '14 be developed, the game studio would have to sell an awful lot of copies to keep up with the cost. The chance of having sales for the next gen version amount to $6 million is pretty slim as Martin says that there are not enough units of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One worldwide.

"There are about 4-5 million worldwide combined units of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so it just doesn't add up for us right now. We own the rights, and we absolutely have plans, but it won't be later this year," he told Sports Illustrated.

NASCAR '14 for PS3 and Xbox 360 will be available in the US by February 18, 2014 but is now available for pre-order at $49.99.

"Ordering at Best Buy or Target will get you themed DLC cars that represent those stores, respectively. Wal-Mart nets you a physical die-cast car. Finally, ordering at GameStop gets you four DLC cars, themed after GameStop itself, and other Deep Silver games: Saints Row, Metro Last Light, and Dead Island," says Shack News.
