The first generation of the Apple TV was first released in 2007. Two years after the release of the latest model, the third generation back in 2012, Apple has revealed its plans to unveil a redesigned Apply TV platform.

An article on Bloomberg reported that the new device will debut in April. However, customers won't be able to get their hands on it until Christmas season. But sources related to the company clarified that the release date may still change since Apple is currently in the process of settling new agreements between programming and distribution partners.

According to the article, "The new device, which plugs into a television set, will have a faster processor than the previous version and un upgraded interface." This new feature of the device will enable users to navigate through television programs, full-length movies, and other online content in a much easier fashion.

As part of the features of the redesigned Apple TV, the company is currently in negotiations with Time Warner Cable since last year for a potential joint project. If the deal between the two companies pushes through, customers will be able to enjoy watching from a wide range live television channels.

The deal would also allow Time Warner to fully achieve its "TV Everywhere" strategy. Basically, it involves giving customers an opportunity to watch their favorite television programs using various devices. It has already started with its viewing app on iPad, Android tablets, and Amazon's Kindle Fire.

Aside from Time Warner, it has also been reported that Apple is trying to enter deals with other potential problems. However, it encountered setbacks while trying to work with DirectTV and Comcast.

The public release of the redesigned Apple TV is part of what Apple's Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook promised regarding the company's new line of products for the year, which includes the rumored smartwatch.
