The rivalry between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 4 heated up again this week when video game research company DFC Intelligence predicted that Microsoft and Sony would both sell 100 million units by the year 2020.

The two companies have gone neck to neck ever since the release of the first Xbox, which immediately become a direct competitor with PlayStation. These recent forecasts show that the rivalry won't be ending anytime soon and both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have bright futures in the gaming world.

Sony and the PlayStation 4 have fared well since the November release and so far the company has a sales lead over its rival in Microsoft and the Xbox One.

Perhaps one of the reasons the PlayStation 3 has held a sales lead to this point is because of the significant difference in price between the two game consoles. The Xbox One is listed at a rather expensive $499 while the PlayStation 4 has an easier, $399 price tag. Both of the game consoles will eventually drop in price, but one has to wonder whether Microsoft will be pressured to lower the price before Sony does.
