Fans of Xenoblade series of Monster Hunter will be excited to see the sneak peak preview gameplay footage released by Nintendo for the new Monolith Soft game X, a placeholder name for the Wii U RPG and the first of its kind.

Nintendo unveiled it for the first time over a year ago after the launch of the Wii U, and the game was not meant as a direct sequel to but more of a "spiritual successor" to the role-playing game Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii. Monolith Soft will use power of the Wii U to create an HD world in a break from the standard-definition Wii. Xenoblade Chronicles was widely revered as one of the finest RPGs of any platform.

This is consistent with the principles set out by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who said "The game's battle system is based on Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii, but with even more polish." Nintendo has not confirmed a release date but it is supposed to take place later this year. Sources predict that it is possible that Nintendo cannot achieve a 2014 release date for the Western version and could more likely come out in 2015 instead.

"The goal is to create a large-scale open world that players can explore seamlessly. The team is using their experience from creating Xenoblade to make this goal a reality."

The video, which you can watch below, shows an extended battle sequence where a team of characters use massive swords and guns to take down a gigantic enemy. Players also can do battle both on land as well as in a mech and there is slated to be a multiplayer function.

Fans have been patiently waiting for news and the brand new and uncut gameplay footage gives a small insight into the battle system. You can watch the over three minutes of footage at 34:52:
