Misery is a major ingredient in a post-apocalyptic world, and the 10th episode of The Walking Dead, there's plenty of it to go around. Entertainment Weekly reports that hopelessness seemed to be the common theme of the scenes, with the rest of the survivors struggling to survive those moments right after their haven of a prison was completely, devastatingly lost.

Entitled, "Inmates," the episode opens with a poignant reading of Beth's journal entry, way back when times were good at the prison.  Unfortunately, Beth's hopeful words are juxtaposed with her and Daryl running through the woods, evading walkers and coming to terms with the fact that they've just lost their sanctuary, reports HuffPost TV.  The tenor of the opening scene echoes through the rest of the episode, with the characters, who are proven to be the toughest of survivors, having to deal with profound misery.

Daryl and Beth of course get to a safe spot in the woods after running for their lives, and with little spark of hope in her heart, Beth resolves to track the others. Daryl isn't too keen on the idea, but he reluctantly takes on the plan when Beth storms off further into the woods, flabbergasted at his lack of enthusiasm.  The pair go on to discover remnants of survivors and of surviving. Beth breaks down when she sees that a child had been victimized. Later, it's quite sad to see Beth burning her journal pages.

After Daryl and Beth, the audience finds Mika, Lizzie and little Judith (thankfully alive!) with Tyreese, struggling to survive the woods full of walkers. Forbes recounts that Tyreese does a good job protecting the girls, until he leaves them all alone to rescue some survivors in distress. Alone with a wailing baby, Myka and Lizzie seemed to have no escape from the walkers when they are rescued by a familiar face: Carol! Their reunion with Tyreese is bittersweet, especially when Lizzie almost smothered the baby to death some moments ago, and Tyreese still doesn't know he just hugged his girlfriend's killer.

The audience finally discovers what happened to Maggie and Glenn- the most adorable couple in this post-apocalyptic world- only to feel a little heartbroken and lost. Maggie is with Sasha and Bob. She eventually discovers what happened to the prison bus by tracking it, and after wasting all the walkers trapped inside she is certain of one fact: Glenn is not among them.

Glenn, it turns out, is still at the prison, stranded. He realizes he is alone, and eventually resolves to escape and find Maggie. He gathers some fighting gear and liquor and heads out to wage war with the zombies. He finds Tara in one of the cages.  Together, they fight their way out but when Glenn passes out, Tara had to do all the shooting and killing on her own. Just then an army truck pulls up and three people walk out of the vehicle. Two guys and one girl. Are they friends or enemies?  We'll have to wait until Sunday to find out.
