This NBA offseason has been filled with so much madness, so many holdouts, and free agents changing teams. It looks like next offseason will be even crazier.

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers each had their worst seasons in franchise history this past year, and the connections don't end there. Many NBA experts believe the Lakers may not re-sign Kobe Bryant at the end of next season, thus leaving him as a free agent. As crazy as it may sound, Bryant could end up in the Big Apple.

"One of the things I've been hearing - I know for a fact - Carmelo Anthony has been and will continue to recruit Kevin Durant until the cows come home. I'm also hearing that Kevin Durant is giving the New York Knicks consideration. And there are people in NBA circles who have joked around about the possibility of Kobe Bryant - if not wanted by the Lakers - could end up playing in New York for a year with Melo and Kevin Durant," said NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith on "ESPN First Take."

It's important to note that Mr. Smith said he "doesn't believe it will happen" in the long run. However, Mr. Smith did say that Anthony wants to have Durant there in New York City with him.

Bryant has just one year remaining on his contract, in which he is scheduled to make $25 million with the Lakers. Now 37 years old, Bryant clearly isn't in the prime of his career anymore. Many believe there is a strained relationship between Bryant and owner Jim Buss, which will ultimately result in Bryant leaving. The key X factor here may be Phil Jackson, who is the Knicks team president. Jackson and Bryant worked wonders together in Los Angeles, winning five NBA championships.

This isn't the first time Bryant and Lakers management have been at odds.

The other key player in the loop here is Kevin Durant. As previously mentioned, Anthony is a big fan of his, and has been "recruiting" him. Durant, like Bryant, is in the final year of his contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Many NBA experts believe Durant will choose to sign with the Washington Wizards because of his hometown roots. However, there are some that think Durant will ultimately sign with the Knicks.

According to the New York Daily News, "Kevin loves Carmelo Anthony. It could work in New York. But never rule out the Thunder." That same NYDN report also indicated that Durant and Russell Westbrook could split up because of chemistry issues and lack of touches. Westbrook is an elite player, but he gets criticized often for shooting the basketball too much for a point guard.

Obviously Durant is a better player than Bryant at this stage in his career, and he is just 26 years old. He's arguably the best pure scorer in the league, can hit shots from anywhere on the floor, and he's proven himself in the playoffs. The only downside here for the Knicks is money. Durant will more than likely demand top dollar, as he should. With Anthony already one of the highest paid players, especially with the no-trade clause in his contract, it will be very difficult for the Knicks to work this one out.

Durant only played in 27 games last season because of constant foot injuries, so next season, a contract year, is extremely important for him.

The odds of this fully happening next offseason are slim - possible, but slim. Bryant has played his entire career with the Lakers, as has Durant. For this incredible scenario to actually take place next offseason, Anthony may have to take a pay cut to free up salary cap space for the Knicks.
