The upcoming Fox TV series welcomes another addition to the cast and this time, for an "imposing and hot-headed" character to be portrayed by Jada Pinkett Smith, confirms The Hollywood Reporter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jada will be taking on the role of Fish Mooney, "a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner who has the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book."

Fish Mooney is an original character that does not exist in the comics, says the Los Angeles Times but one will find her familiar with her link to one of Gotham's villains, the Penguin.

Jada's character, who the Los Angeles Times says will be a series regular, is the sadistic gangster boss whom Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin works for. In the city of Gotham, the Penguin, a low-level psychopath who hides his sadistic lust for power behind a polite demeanor will be played by The Walking Dead's Robin Lord Taylor says The Hollywood Reporter.

The sadistic gangster boss character will be Jada Pinkett Smith's comeback to the small screen, after her role as hospital head in the medical drama, Hawthorne, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

Jada joins the rest of the Gotham cast which is made up of Ben McKenzie who plays James Gordon, an idealistic rookie detective; Sean Pertwee as the butler Alfred Pennyworth, Robin Lord Taylor portraying her apprentice, Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin; Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen; Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock.

Earlier this month, Comic Book Therapy reported that the Fox TV Series was in search of a young Bruce Wayne who the casting call describes as "dark haired, handsome, soulful, wise and strong willed." According to the casting call, the character, like Fish Mooney will also be a series regular.

Production for Gotham reportedly starts March 17, claims Variety.
