Tim Tebow is fighting for a Philadelphia Eagles' 53-man roster spot. He will likely be the third-string quarterback behind starter Sam Bradford and backup Mark Sanchez if he beats Matt Barkley in the eyes of the coaching staff.

The former Broncos quarterback put on a show in a preseason game against the New York Jets. In the 24-18 loss, Tebow threw two touchdowns and completed 11 out of 17 passes for 189 yards with one interception. He ended the game with a rating of 117.0, according to the ESPN Box Score.

Matt Barkley started the game and finished the first quarter. He also started the second half while Tebow played the second and fourth quarters. Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez did not play the last preseason game for the Eagles, as reported by ESPN.

In a report from Denver Post, former Broncos safety Brian Dawkins thinks that his ex-Broncos teammate will make the Eagles' 53-man roster. In an interview with ESPN via a Vine post, Dawkins said, "I believe Tebow will make the team. I don't think Matt did quite enough to separate the two, so I think Tebow will be an Eagle," Dawkins said. The two played were teammates in Denver from 2010 to 2011.

According to USA Today, Tebow will make the roster because of three things.

First, Eagles coach Chip Kelly utilized Tebow as a quarterback. Fansided reports that Kelly has plans for the former Heisman Trophy winner, and he is not going anywhere unless he becomes a major bust.

Sources from CBS Sports say that some executives and coaches in the NFL believe that Kelly prefers to keep Tebow for key gadget plays, fourth-down situations and two-point conversions.

"I like how Timmy threw it. That's the big concern with everybody coming in: 'Has he really changed?' And I think his sequencing is better. He got his feet underneath him. And when the guys ran the right routes and he had an opportunity to throw the football, I thought he threw the ball really well," says Kelly.

Second, Matt Barkley has not made any separation from Tebow during the preseason. Barkley had a bad game against the Jets, completing only four out of nine passes for 45 yards with no touchdown. His first possession ended with an interception, per ESPN Box Score. But USA Today reports that Barkley is the better passer among the two.

Lastly, Tebow has the intangibles that Kelly want. He is a positive presence in the locker room that coaches want. According to Blogging the Boys, the Eagles and all NFL teams have until Sept. 5, 4 p.m. New York time, to reduce their roster to 53 men.
