"Twin Peaks" just added Amanda Seyfried and Balthazar Getty as the latest stars to join the cast of the upcoming revival.

The Showtime reboot will be a continuation of the original series, which ran in the early 90s, according to TV Line. Kyle MacLachlan will be returning to the show, along with other former cast members, such as Sheryl Lee, Dana Ashbrook and possibly Sherilyn Fenn.

Specific details regarding the actors' roles have yet to be revealed. However, Seyfried has been identified as a "major" character who will play a "pivotal" role in the show's plot. Getty, on the other hand, may not be taking on the part of a new character but stepping into an existing role.

"Twin Peaks" co-creators Mark Frost and David Lynch will make their return to the series, and Lynch is set to direct all 18 planned episodes. Production has begun on the series in Washington state with the air date slated for 2016.

Getty made a previous appearance in Lynch's 1997 cult film "Lost Highway." The actor can next be seen in the Native American vampire thriller "Second Sunrise."

This will be Seyfried's first big TV role since starring in HBO's "Big Love," which came to an end in 2011. She has also been featured on TV shows, such as "Veronica Mars," "Wildfire," "All My Children" and "As the World Turns." The actress also has a few movies entering theaters soon, including next month in "Pan" and "Fathers and Daughters" opposite Aaron Paul and Russell Crowe.

"Twin Peaks" follows an investigation into the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Lee). While FBI agent Dale Cooper (MacLachlan) carries out the intense search for the perpetrator, he also exposes some of the town's secrets, which leads to a perplexing twist of fate for all of the show's characters.
