Lifetime's "Devious Maids" ended its third season with a shocking finale in August, but little info has been offered since about the renewal or possible cancellation of the enthralling summertime drama. However, fans and showrunners are optimistic.

Unquestionably, last season's cliffhangers were exciting enough to keep viewers wanting to come back for more, but that doesn't mean the Lifetime network is eager to see the return of the devious women.

"I am very optimistic," showrunner Brian Tanen told the Hollywood Reporter. "The show has been exciting and fun this year and I'm hopeful that Lifetime will give us a fourth season. It's not in my hands, but I'm optimistic. We should have an answer about a potential season four by the end of September."

The end of September nears, and there still has been no answer given regarding the continuation of the series. The "kitchen-sink finale" concluded with a number of colliding storylines, cliffhangers, deaths and surprises, all rattling predictability. The roller coaster season concluded with Zoila (Judy Reyes) and her baby left dependent on Genevieve (Susan Lucci). Taylor (Brianna Brown) and her adopted daughter Katy (Grecia Merino) changed their identities, with Katy taking on Rosie's (Dania Ramirez) name as her own.

Meanwhile, the real Rosie chose to take care of husband Spence (Grant Show), helping him remember her and their love. Just then, Spence's ex-wife Peri (Mariana Klaveno) swooped in to reclaim her marriage. Unfortunately, Spence believes Peri when she claims that they are still married and Rosie is their maid, which mirrors their roles during the first season of the show.

The bold finale also showed Adrian (Tom Irwin) hurrying into his mansion moments before it's blown apart, leaving fans to wonder if he'll survive. Co-executive producer Sabrina Wind offered TV Line a teasing statement regarding his fate, saying, "Let's just say we have a really great story to tell with that."

Tanen told THR showrunnners have several strategies when planning future episodes of the series, but at the beginning of each year, they end up deviating from plans to map out character development and plots.

Fingers are crossed, and fans are hopeful that the series will return next year.
