Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed had to stop on their tracks during a romantic stroll in New York City to gaze at the supermoon. Much like everyone else on the streets of NYC during that Sunday night, the couple craned their necks and watched in awe at what astronomers call a blood moon.

Several photos of the couple shared by Daily Mail show them transfixed at the rare phenomenon while standing on the streets of New York. In one shot, Nikki and Ian are joined by other people as they stand out of the way of the oncoming traffic to gaze at the night sky. The couple, who married on April 26 after six months of dating, seemed oblivious to the passing vehicles as they gaze at the supermoon. Most of the photos shared by Daily Mail show "The Vampire Diaries" star with his mouth open as he stares in wonder at the blood moon.

Daily Mail shared a photo of the supermoon captured by professional photographers at it appeared beside the Empire State Building. The photo proves how the supermoon could make someone stop on their tracks with its eerily wonderful sight.

Nikki and Ian were both pictured wearing formal black attires. The 27-year-old actress is dressed in a black and blue dress under a black blazer, matched with black stilettos, while her husband of five months wore a suit and tie.

According to Aces Showbiz, the couple has just stepped out from Cipriani restaurant after attending the United Nations Environment Programme Champion of the Earth event. Ian was photographed still holding on to some books and an iPhone charger as he and Nikki paused to look at the night sky.

Prior to the event, Ian had taken to his Instagram to post his photo with Nikki at the venue. The actor captioned the shot, "We're here! I'm rehearsing with my beautiful wife @iamnikkireed To host the #UNEPChampions Gala."

Ian also encouraged people to watch the event live and provided an online link.

"Watch the inspiration live!!! at https://web.unep.org/champions/livestream Watch this-be here with us, it's an incredible night.
