Justin Bieber seems to think he and Selena Gomez were just too much into one another.

In the new issue of Complex magazine, Bieber shares he suffered through issues of self-worth while dating the "Heart Wants What It Wants" singer and reflects the condition definitely took its toll.

"Your full identity can't be in that person," he said. "My identity was in her. Her identity was in me. When stuff would happen, I would lose my freakin' mind, and she would lose her mind, and we would fight so hard because we were so invested in each other."

The 21-year-old Bieber also revealed he and Gomez lived together for a while when he was just 18-years-old.

"I learned a lot," he said. "I moved in with my girlfriend when I was 18. Started my own life with her. It was a marriage kind of thing. Living with a girl, it was just too much at that age."

And some would say it showed in the form of the couple's often volatile relationship. They split and reconciled what seems like countless times before most recently splitting in 2014.

"Love is a choice," said Bieber. "Love is not a feeling. People have made it seem in movies that it's this fairy tale. That's not what love is."

As his struggles with Gomez seemed to mount, he went through a rebellious period that included a string of run-ins with the law, including in early 2014 when he was pulled over in Miami Beach for speeding and later charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

Bieber spent 24-hours in a jail cell, and he later insisted he emerged from his experience a changed man. More recently, he has started to make the switch from pop to EDM music and has been working on new music with Kanye West.
