This October a number of Latin American stars and directors will headline some of the most anticipated films of the year.

The month starts off on Oct. 2 with the premiere of "The Martian," which stars acclaimed actor Michael Pena in a supporting role alongside the talents of Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels and Kristen Wiig.

That same weekend "Sicario" starring Benicio del Toro and Emily Blunt will open wide after a huge limited release and scoring rave reviews. Both films are looking to create Oscar buzz after their Toronto Film Festival bows.

The following week Adopt films will release the German film "Victoria" with Spanish actress Laia Costa, who recently won a number of awards for her turn in the film. While it is not Germany's submission for the Academy Awards, the movie will likely thrill audiences especially since it was shot in one take in the vein of last year's Oscar winning film "Birdman."

Oct. 16 sees the return of Guillermo del Toro to the director's seat in his highly anticipated film "Crimson Peak. The movie stars Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska, and Universal hopes it will be the Halloween film of the season.

On Oct. 23, The Orchard will release the highly controversial and groundbreaking LGBT film "Nasty Baby." The movie, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and later went on to win the Teddy Award at Berlinale is directed by acclaimed director Sebastian Silva. "Nasty Baby" also marks his debut as an actor and also stars Wiig. While the movie will be released in both theaters and on demand, it is one of the highly anticipated films of the season.

On Oct. 20. Sandra Bullock stars in "Our Brand is Crisis" which is a movie that focuses on the use of American political campaign strategies for Southern American politics. Starring a wonderful Latin American cast that includes Carmela Zumbado, Gino Galento, Matilda del Toro and Joaquim de Almeida, the film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival where it garnered Oscar buzz.

For those not interested in these selections the month will also include "The Walk," the LGBT film "Freeheld," starring Julianne Moore and Ellen Page and "Shanghai," which has been delayed for over five years.

Acclaimed director Joe Wright is back with "Pan" while Danny Boyle will bring "Steve Jobs" with Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet. Strand will also release Greece's Oscar submission "Xenia."

Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg will be back with "Bridge of Spies," a film starring Tom Hanks. Cate Blanchett will also be seen in "Truth," one of her two films this year. "Room" will also be released after winning the Audience Award at Toronto and "The Assassin" will also be released after winning at Cannes.

Oscar buzzy films "Suffragette," with Carey Mulligan, "I Smile Back" with Sarah Silverman and "Burnt" with Bradley Cooper will be available, and "Goosebumps" and "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension" will try to scare up audiences for Halloween.

Other releases include "Rock the Kasbah," "The Last witch Hunter" and "Jem and the Hologram."
