2K Sports might have created the best version of NBA 2K basketball ever. NBA 2K16 just came out last week, and it has already sold over four million copies worldwide.

According to Street Insider, NBA 2K16 broke a record for the franchise by selling a massive amount of copies in its first week. Customers that preordered NBA 2K16 were able to start playing it Sept. 25, while the general release of the game was four days later on Sept. 29.

NBA 2K games have been the dominant basketball simulation games for the last decade with realism and in-depth gameplay. Critics are taking note of this year's version and are praising it, especially for its improved MyCareer mode.

IGN gave NBA 2K16 a 9 out of 10 rating and said, "NBA 2K16 is a great representation of the sport of basketball, and it plays like a dream -- both online and off."

Sporting News was even more generous in their review of NBA 2K16. They called it "the most impressive sports game ever assembled."

"Our goal was simple, make NBA 2K16 the most playable, authentic basketball experience ever," said Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts. "The development team demonstrated tremendous dedication to recreating every nuance of the sport both on and off-court, which has been the driving force behind our early success."

NBA 2K16 features a revamped MyCareer mode, which is written and directed by famous filmmaker Spike Lee. In this mode, players experience what it is like to develop a player from high school all the way to the NBA and beyond.

Even the real-life NBA is praising NBA 2K16 for its success.

"Congratulations to 2K Sports on their early record-breaking success with NBA 2K16," said Matt Holt, NBA vice president, global merchandising. "Each year, 2K has continued to raise their commitment to innovation, authenticity and gameplay -- bringing fans the very best with the NBA 2K16 franchise."
