The long awaited "Power Rangers" movie reboot appears to be underway with a recent casting list regarding some its forerunning members.

Production of the film plans to begin in early 2016 and to hopefully find its way into theaters by 2017. This adaptation will he helmed by "Project Almanac" director Dean Israelite, and has been promised to possess a "mature but playful" take on the long running franchise.

The movie will also adopt the identities of the show's first season characters, and will follow the storyline of a group of teenagers inheriting superpowers and saving the world from threatening aliens.

Variety has provided a shortlist of actors they believe Lionsgate is currently screen testing for the following roles. It is reported that both actresses Naomi Scott ("The Martian") and Stephanie Scott are up for the role of Kimberly, aka the Pink Ranger. Daniel Zovatto ("It Follows"), Brian Marc ("Chasing Life") and Ross Butler are up for the role as Zack, aka the Black Ranger. And the Jason, aka Red Ranger, role is between either KJ Apa ("Shortland Street"), Austin Butler ("The Shannara Chronicles") and Mitchell Hope ("Descendants").

It was also reported that the studio is actively searching for lesser-known talents to take on these leads, as they will most likely want to build a franchise around them. Each of the rumored actors are fairly young and haven't had any major roles under their belts, so the success of this film could really work to bring them into the spotlight, as we've seen happen countless times with popular superhero projects.

This report also seems to coincide with the recently leaked character descriptions released by Collider. This also suggested that the movie would return to original series' characters, but with a more detailed back-story.
