At a press conference in Mexico City, actress Alicia Machado revived rumors that she may be playing Jenni Rivera in a film about the late banda singer's life.

Back in 2013, the actress confirmed that she auditioned for the role, but there were no further updates about the film until recently.

"I was prepping for the movie that starts shooting this August. In fact, I'll be traveling to LA in July to continue my acting classes, I already got together with Jenni's family, with her brother Lupillo and her sister," she said.

Recently, Machado participated in a press conference in Mexico City and brought up the possibility of playing the coveted role in the film, which is still in the early stages of development.

"I was auditioning to play Jenni Rivera in the movie that will be produced eventually," Machado said. "Pretty well, supposedly it's a yes. Right now they are dealing with copyright and such but ... fingers crossed."

According to Telemundo, the star also explained that, while it would be great to play Rivera, it would also be a challenge to do so.

Machado isn't the only one who hopes to play the legendary star on screen. Rivera's own daughter, singer Chiquis Rivera, has stated that she would love to play her mother.

Rivera told TVnotas that, while she is learning to understand the acting world, it was her mother's wish to see her become an actress, and she won't give up, regardless of what her critics say.

The singer is the constant subject of criticism from people who say she lacks acting talent, but the 30-year-old star says that the negative comments only motivate her to keep going.

The late Mexican singer said that if a movie were ever made about her life, she would want Jennifer Lopez or Kate del Castillo to play the role, reported Latina Magazine. However, neither of those actresses is in the running to play the star.

Also up for the role in Angélica Vale.
