Kate Upton admitted her reasons for exercising are not focused on getting skinny. Instead, it's a matter of keeping a "strong" persona amid the stereotypical notion that models have to be skinny.

However, the Sports Illustrated model has already established a name for herself in the entertainment industry as one of today's most sought after top models. It's understandable why she would want to indulge in some gym time so she could maintain her sexy frame.

In an exclusive interview with Womens Health magazine, Upton talked about her fitness regimen and opinions about her physical traits. When asked if she feels bothered being called "curvy," the 23-year-old said she prefers to keep a positive outlook and not dwell on what people think of her.

"Does it bother me being called curvy? A lot of things bother me, but I guess I have the theory that I'd like to try to move things forward rather than worry about what people are calling me or thinking of me," she said.

Upton also revealed her reasons why she follows a strict workout regimen consisting of yoga, boxing and other weight exercises. She admitted she exercises to stay healthy and strong despite her long working hours.

"I do love that 'strong not skinny' is a movement now. When I first started out, it was just 'skinny, skinny, skinny'. And I want to be strong because I'm working 12-hour days and I want to do it with energy and happiness and I want to go out with my friends and enjoy my life," Upton told the publication.

In the same interview, the model turned actress also revealed the regular exercises she follows under the help of her trainer David Kirsch. Upton said she trains about four times in a week doing a mixture of yoga, boxing, weight lifting and some lengthening bodyweight exercises.

One would think that Upton is already so used to seeing herself work out by now. However, the model told Womens Health that she finds it "awkward" and that she hates looking at herself in the mirror when she's exercising. But she admitted that it is necessary to look at yourself especially during weight training to make sure you are executing the proper movement.

According to MailOnline, back in 2012 Upton hit back at critics who called her "fat." The outspoken model said she would never starve herself just to become skinny and please people.
