Most gamers will recognize the PS4 to be the lead competitor in the console war, however the Xbox One has managed to shift the tides last month despite the PS4 price cut.

According to the monthly reports from the NPD Group, the Xbox One came out on top in terms of physical sales despite the PS4 dropping its price for the first time last month. Xbox marketing execs have attributed this to the console's recent greatest games lineup.

Xbox One - 81% Growth

"The strength of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history drove record Xbox Live usage for October and made Xbox One the best-selling console in the U.S. with 81 percent growth compared to October 2014," Xbox marketing corporate VP Mike Nichols said in a statement shared with GameSpot.

October saw the release of the highly anticipated "Halo 5," an Xbox One exclusive that was sure to not be rivaled by any of Sony's releases that month.

NPD no longer provides hard sales numbers so we don't know exactly how far the margin was, but VGChartz has estimated about 303,000 to 275,000.

Wii U didn't make any comments on their hardware sales, but they did manage to note the increase in Amiibo sales, highlighting that well over 800,000 Amiibo figures and cards were sold in October.

It was also noted that console sales overall took a slight dip last month due to portables.

"This was due entirely to 8th generation console hardware sales, which rose by 12 percent to offset the 66 percent decrease in hardware sales for 7th generation consoles," NPD analyst Liam Callahan said.

Gaming bundles were also highly representative of the console sales this month, as a number of different deals have been offered in lieu of the holiday season.
