The Samsung Galaxy S7, the follow up to the Galaxy S6, could bring back the microSD slot allowing for expandable storage.

The coming Samsung Galaxy smartphone will be Samsung's next flagship phone and it will make improvements on the Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S7 could be released as early as January, TechRadar reports.

Rumors have been circulating around an early release for the Galaxy S7. An analyst at SK Securities believes that the Galaxy S7 will be announced in January and then launched in early February. Other sources say that Samsung is ahead of schedule on the Galaxy S7, developing the firmware a month earlier than they did for the Galaxy S6. If the Galaxy S7 is not released early, it would likely be announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in late February.

The Galaxy S7 will not be a drastic change from the Galaxy S6. Samsung may choose to use a different type of metal, namely magnesium-based alloy. Using this type of material would allow the handset to be stronger, but still light in weight. When the processor in the phone starts working hard, this metal would allow it to stay cool.

The screen on the Galaxy S7 is likely to be 5.7 inches. Instead of upgrading to a 4K display, it looks like the display will be QHD with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. Samsung might make the screen touch-sensitive similar to the iPhone 6s' 3-D Touch.

Rumors are pointing towards an excellent camera in the Galaxy S7. The Galaxy S6 already has a great camera, but Samsung might make it even better. Samsung may be borrowing the camera from the Sony Xperia Z5. The IMX300 sensor inside the Xperia Z5 is one of the best smartphone cameras currently available.

The Galaxy S7 is set to use the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which is coming out later this year. The Snapdragon 820 is heavily anticipated for its fast processing power.

The Galaxy S7 will start at around $650 when it is released.
