It is rare for an original actor to come back and star in a reboot of a film that he made famous, but Kevin Bacon has signed on for a television reboot of the classic film "Tremors."

According to Entertainment Weekly, while the new project will star Bacon as in the original, this time the story will come in the form of a television series. The new series should not be confused with the short-lived "Tremors" TV series that aired on Syfy in 2003 (called SciFi Channel then).

It has been 25 years since Bacon took on the role for the film that gave birth to four sequels, all of which were direct-to-video releases. But now, the actor has put on his nostalgia cap and decided to come back to the franchise for a new go around, following his dabbling in TV series of late with Fox's "The Following."

Bacon has had quite a successful career, starting out as a teen idol and moving on to many other serious adult roles, including turns in "A Few Good Men" and "Mystic River." But he has long wanted to come back to one of his earliest roles and mount another fight against the monstrous killer worms that move through the ground and swallow people up.

Bacon will reprise the role of Valentine McKee, and the setting will remain the fictional Nevada town of Perfection.

Although it is unclear where the sequel films and the ill-fated TV series will fit into the background for the reboot, it is reasonable to believe that the series will possibly ignore those other projects and pick back up directly from the original film that starred Bacon.

The series comes from Blumhouse Productions, and the project has been tapped for production, but does not currently have a network attached to it. Although Syfy is definitely a good fit for the show, there are many other networks that have been really picking up on genre shows lately.
