Liam Payne is said to be desperate to get back with ex-girlfriend Sophia Smith. The One Direction singer has reportedly been texting Smith, asking her for a reconciliation just weeks after their breakup in October.

A source told Now Magazine that Payne has been bombarding his ex with text messages, asking for forgiveness and a possible reconciliation. He has reportedly been sending her "up to 50 messages a day begging for forgiveness."

"After his mini-meltdown in Belfast, all he can think about is Sophia and what a mess he's made of everything. He's been sending her 50 texts a day trying to soften her up and trying to convince her to give the relationship another shot," the source said.

Payne is said to be hoping that he and Smith would get back together in time for the holidays. However, the source told Now Magazine the singer's efforts to win his ex-girlfriend back is not working.

Smith is reportedly still not convinced that a reunion with Payne is the right thing to do especially after he humiliated her with the breakup. The source said Smith still feels hurt and angry that the singer would just split up with her just like that after two years of being together.

"She's been replying to his texts and told him she'll meet up, but only when she's ready. At the moment Sophia's worried that Liam isn't taking responsibility. She thinks he was very selfish and she wants to know that he won't repeat the same mistakes and take her for granted again," the unnamed source told Now Magazine.

Payne opened up about the split in October during an interview with The Sun's Natalie Edwards and Emma Brankin before One Direction took to the stage for their final performance ahead of their planned hiatus. The 22-year-old revealed his heartache and said he felt "devastated" following the breakup.

The singer hinted the split was caused by his busy schedule touring with One Direction. He said he and Smith spent so much time apart since he has been away on tour "all this year."

Despite the breakup, Payne told The Sun's reporters Edwards and Brankin that he is "looking forward" to spend his time by himself. This way he can reportedly figure out who he is and what he really wants to do in his life. Payne also said he's thinking of working together with fellow One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson.
