It has been weeks upon weeks since the last edition of Messi vs. Ronaldo, mainly because the Argentine superstar was absent for some time. Messi has now returned full time to Blaugrana, playing a few minutes in El Clasico last weekend and starting two straight matches this past week.

As a result, the contest between the two stars can now continue. The last edition left Messi with a 3-2 advantage, as Ronaldo struggled for form. Some expected his rival's return might spark Ronaldo back to life.

So how did the superstars do in Week 13 of La Liga?

Messi

Messi got a chance to showcase his skill in two games before his rival. The first game, against Roma, was Messi at his best, completely overwhelming the Italian team with two goals and an assist. His first goal was brilliant, a play of his own making. He did the traditional give-and-go, before using his incredible speed to latch onto the ball and then deftly flick it over an oncoming keeper. That goal alone showed Messi's intelligence, speed and brilliant technique.

He was far less influential during the weekend against Real Sociedad, cashing in on a late goal with the score already beyond doubt. A week with three goals and an assist in two matches is a solid bounce back for Messi, who struggled in those departments prior to his injury.

Ronaldo

Messi's return seemed to bring out the best in Ronaldo, who was tremendous against Shakhtar Donetsk in a 4-3 win in the Champions League. His opening goal was a subtle flick into an empty cage, but his finest moment came when he set up Luka Modrić for the second goal. He provided another assist, before showcasing his brilliant goal scoring touch on the fourth goal of the night. At that point, it was 4-0, but it would prove to be the winner.

Over the weekend, Ronaldo continued his La Liga struggles, but managed to get a late penalty goal to give Madrid a necessary second goal in a 2-0 win. It was a game that saw Los Blancos continue to struggle in domestic competition, so Ronaldo's strike, despite coming off a penalty, was crucial for a team having difficulty with form.

Season Stats

Ronaldo has 16 goals and four assists in all competitions; he has contested 18 games across the board. In La Liga he has nine goals and two assists in 13 matches; he has seven goals in just five Champions League tilts to go along with two assists.

Messi has nine goals and three assists in 13 games for Barcelona in all competitions; he has four goals and two assists in eight La Liga games.

Calendar Year Stats

The two men are now tied with 48 goals for the year. Messi has accomplished the feat in 56 games, while Ronaldo has done it in 52. Messi has 24 assists in 2015, while Ronaldo has only 14.

Winner

Ronaldo put up one more assist than Messi over the past week and scored a crucial goal for Madrid when the team desperately needed to shut down Eibar.

He wins the first matchup of the week, setting the score between the stars for the 2015-16 season at an even 3-3.
