Season 1 of "Heroes Reborn" only has three episodes remaining, and evidence is mounting it may be the last fans ever see of the series.

NBC promoted "Heroes Reborn" as a miniseries and never made any promises to go beyond the initial season. It's likely the network was trying to gauge the popularity of the revived show moving forward, but seeing as no reports have emerged regarding a second season, there's not much reason to hope for more at this point.

Ratings indicate the show is not as successful as NBC would have liked. According to TV By The Numbers, "Heroes Reborn" premiered with a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 years old. Unfortunately, ratings have dipped since then, dropping to 1.0 last week, which isn't great.

Still, the website says the show is pulling numbers above the network average, so there may be a slight chance they'll renew at the last second.

"Heroes" creator Tim Kring spoke with Variety earlier this year, saying he would be willing to continue the revived series for another season.

"I've always felt that the brand was elastic enough and a broad enough premise," Kring said.

"It's a show about ordinary people with extraordinary powers. It's an indeterminate [amount of] people around the world and then they have to save the world. I feel confident that we can find more story to tell with some returning characters and new ones."

Nevertheless, Kring said there was an advantage in keeping the series down to 13 episodes.

"With 13 episodes, it means we can tell this very aggressive form of storytelling -- putting 50 pounds of story into a 10 pound bag," he said.

"When you log onto this show for the very first time and sign on to watch it, you know that you will get an end."

Heroes Reborn is set to return in January 2016 on NBC.
