Folks in Santa Monica, Calif. are certainly on edge today, after yet another shooting in the normally quiet city. Tuesday's violence left one man dead and another man injured, and police are still searching for answers in the case.

The incident marks the third shooting in the past five days for the usually safe area of Santa Monica. The attack happened on the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue when a gunman approached two men who were standing in an alley.

"Officers found the victims, described as men 25 to 35 years old, with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, [Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard] Lewis said. Paramedics took them to the trauma center, where one died. Their names were unavailable," reported the Los Angeles Times.

One of the men is still in the hospital, and it is unclear whether he will be able to recover from his wounds. If he survives, it is possible he could help the police with the investigation.

So far, little is known about the suspect in question. Police have said all they know for sure is that the man was driving a blue Infiniti that headed west on Michigan Ave. after the shooting. The incident comes just four days after a tragic shooting that left six people dead near Santa Monica College.

"Law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation said Tuesday's incident had no connection with Friday's rampage that left five victims and a gunman dead at the college and surrounding neighborhood," noted the Times.

Following Friday's shooting, a cyclist was also shot on Sunday in Santa Monica, but survived. Though police do not believe Tuesday's shooting was related to the first incident, they were looking into the possibility that it may be connected to the shooting of the cyclist.

"Santa Monica's a very quiet city," Lewis said. "This particular neighborhood has in the past -- not for a few years now -- been subject to a few shootings, some gang violence."
