The Dallas Cowboys have an extremely tough road ahead of them.

It got even tougher after their starting linebacker Sean Lee tore his ACL in organized team activities. Lee was tackled by the teams first round pick Zach Martin. OTAs are supposed to be non-contact drills, so this injury comes as the most disappointing of Lee's career.

So what now for the Dallas Cowboys? They had the worst defense in the NFL last season, the 2014 draft has come and gone, and Lee is expected to miss the entire season. Multiple reports have shown that the Cowboys may be interested in Brian Urlacher and Jonathan Vilma.

Urlacher had a fantastic career with the Chicago Bears after being drafted No. 9 overall in 2000. For 13 seasons with the Bears, Urlacher was one of the best tacklers in the league and even racked up 41.5 sacks. Urlacher is a multidimensional linebacker who can rush the quarterback, tackle the runner and even cover tight ends. His game is similar to Tedy Bruschi and Ray Lewis's style of play. There's no doubt that Urlacher would be the leader of the Cowboys defense if signed.

The only problem for the Cowboys concerning Urlacher is he's retired. Why would Urlacher come out of retirement at age 36 to help the worst defensive team in the NFL? If Urlacher is going to endure that experiment on a completely new team and system, then Owner Jerry Jones is going to have to offer Urlacher a lot of money. This looks very unlikely.

Another possibility is Jonathan Vilma.

Vilma is currently a free agent and was once a feared linebacker amongst offensive players. Lately he's been in hot water because of injuries, and he was named in the bounty gate scandal involving the New Orleans Saints defense. Vilma's tackle numbers have also decreased every since 2008, and he is now 32 years old.

There's no doubt Vilma would be willing to play for the Cowboys but at what price? The Cowboys can offer an amount, but it's important they don't overpay for an aging linebacker with injury problems. With the departure of longtime sack master DeMarcus Ware, the Cowboys have gone into rebuilding mode, especially on defense. Bringing in Vilma would only be a short term solution, not a long term one. If the two sides can agree on a reasonable amount, this could be an interesting fit.

There is another name out there that most have forgotten about: Super Bowl hero James Harrison. Harrison was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals after just one season, but he still has one of the hardest hits in the NFL. Harrison is a free agent and might be worth a look for the Cowboys.
