The 92nd Academy Awards was attended by several Latino celebrities and many presenters including Anthony Ramos, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Salma Hayek.

Latinos in the Entertainment Industry

Latino celebrities were highlighted in the event when the acceptance of the awards of the winners had delivered their speeches. Some of the speeches delivered by the award winners centered on the significant contributions of Latinos in the cinematic stage. Despite the praises given by the award winners to the contributions of the Latino community, it is still evident that there is still a lack of Latino access in the entertainment industry. However, it should be recognized that Latinos are being nominated for such events. This proves their growing significance in the entertainment world.

Speeches about Latino Influence

Brad Pitt was one of the winners in the event. He received the Best Supporting Actor Award for playing a character in 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' by Quentin Tarantino. Pitt was acknowledged by Robert Garcia as being a notable part of the team. Garcia was cast as the driver of Pitt in the films 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and 'Ad Astra.'

An article from Remezcla stated that in an interview, Pitt commented about Robert Garcia. He described him as an old friend. He shared how Garcia is a team player that someone can rely on.

In the later parts of the Oscars 2020 event, another meaningful speech was given after Ford v Ferrari received the Best Editing Oscar award. Andrew Buckland, an American editor, delivered a speech in Spanish for his wife and his wife's family in Argentina. The American editor does not have any South American blood. However, he had grown a close bond between some locals in Argentina after making a project in 2011. His project in 2011 in Argentina was a short documentary called 'Somos Wichi.' The documentary was about the Gran Chaco forest in northwestern Argentina's indigenous people.

Backstage, Garcia was interviewed and was asked to further describe his relationship with the locals of Argentina. Garcia answered by saying he owes his life and Oscars award to Argentina. He believes that the country deserves to be included in his speech. He shared how his travels had led him to meet his wife who is from Argentina. He told the story of how he lived in Argentina for a long period. His passion for making films was reborn while he was living in Argentina.

Another Oscars 2020 speech that caught the hearts of many Latinos was from Renée Zellweger. She won the Best Actress Oscars award for her Judy Garland Role in 'Judy. In her speech, she mentioned Dolores Huerta, a veteran civil rights advocate. Also, she mentioned Selena Quintanilla, a Texas-Mexican singer. She spoke of these two iconic women while talking about American heroes who had caused unity and inspiration to the people.
