Three Latinas in the publishing industry are helping parents and students to cope up easily in the homeschooling that is caused by the effect of COVID-19.

The effect of COVID-19 has been tremendous and it has affected to put into hiatus the normal routines of parents and students. Many schools are now closed and forcing them to distance learning and homeschooling. 

This is the time where parents realized the importance and value of teachers. Just like in California where many Latino and Hispanic parents and students were affected after schools decided to shut down until the end of the school year to make their students, teachers, and personnel safe from the virus.

However, many parents still need to wake up early, the same time during regular days, because of the scheduled e-learning of their children. This somehow led most of the parents to face challenges in handling the academic demand of their children.

In response to this problem, some Latinas in the publishing industry took this as an opportunity to help parents cope up and coach them on how to handle their difficult tasks according to a recently published article. Group of Latina publishers made it possible for parents to have digital assets as they play now the role of teachers.

Publishing industries such as Alexis Ruginis (Veoleo Press), Naibe Reynoso (Con Todo Press), and Susie Jaramillo (Encantos Media) collaborated after their sales dropped due to the effect of COVID-19 pandemic. They took the opportunity to help parents in a more entrepreneurial way and other resources are also offered for free.

According to Veoleo Press, "We want this project to be far-reaching so that it finds its way into the families that need it most. The sheets will offer families a fun, cultural, non-pressure opportunity to engage with their little ones during these uncertain times, and we want to make sure they reach every Latinx household."

Veoleo press is one of the industries that offer bilingual and bicultural content for the new generations who are living in the United States. The intention of having bilingual and bicultural content is to make sure that students never forget the root of their culture while they are in another country.

In addition, the three founders of the three publishing industries agreed that they will build "family brands" that represent and include all demographics regardless of race and ethnicity. 

Founder of the Veoleo Press Alexis Ruginis said: "Deliberate or not, it is unquestionably detrimental to children as they develop their sense of identity, and analytical, critical, and cognitive perspectives. As a bicultural Latinx indie press, we have a moral conviction to offer Latinx families books that reflect their heritage and the diverse community that falls under the Latinx umbrella. It is critical, particularly in our current political climate, to foster a positive sense of bicultural identity from a young age."

Moreover, since most of the students and parents are now strictly mandated to stay at home in an attempt to flatten the curve, it is also an opportunity for parents not just to teach their children in their academics but also to share with them their culture that they somehow forgot already. 

There are coloring materials and other tools that encompass areas in language, culture, and heritage. Meanwhile, the Encantos Media has offered a free resource for parents called Encantos Learning Hub which contains more interactive activities, videos, and more while the Con Todo Press are also offering free downloadable materials and history lessons.
