Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has snatched the Kentucky Senate seat in this year's battle.

McConnell defeated the Democratic nominee and retired Marine Corps Lt. Amy McGrath.

McConnell remains the voters' favorite in the race, even with McGrath's fundraising numbers and a promising year for Democrats.

Kentucky is a conservative state, where President Donald Trump won by about 30 points in the 2016 presidential elections.

The polling showed McConnell to be ahead consistently, sometimes up by double digits, according to a Vox report.

Aside from that, FiveThirtyEight's election prediction gave McConnell a 95 percent chance to win. However, there is still a possibility that Democrats could win over the control on the Senate, which would immediately demote McConnell, a Republican, from a majority leader to a minority leader.

McConnell has been a Senate minority leader from 2007 to 2015, and he became the Senate's majority leader in 2015.

Senate Accomplishments

When he was a minority leader, one of McConnell's accomplishments was filling the courts of Republican nominees.

This blocked former President Barrack Obama's 2016 nomination of Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Vox reported that McConnell helped Republicans secure control in the court. Recently, when late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died, McConnell entered the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett. 

He also aided in the unpopular tax bill, which massively benefited the rich Americans. However, McConnell's efforts could backfire as Democrats are now discussing institutional changes and reforms.

According to a Vox report, Democrats could add more seats to the Supreme Court to create new vacancies that Democrats could fill. 

Senate Race 2020

Meanwhile, results are also out to some states showing this year's Senate race winners.

Republican Bill Hagerty has also won this year's senatorial race in Tennessee, a seat vacated by retiring Sen. Lamar Alexander.

In Alabama, Republican Tommy Tuberville leads. In Colorado, Democrat John Hickenlooper leads in the state. Another Democrat is leading in the Kansas poll for Barbara Bollier.

GOP members Susan Collins and John James are leading in Maine and Michigan, respectively. 

North Carolina has Cal Cunningham as the leading candidate, while South Carolina has Lindsey Graham as the leading nominee.
