Nothing is ever surprising when it comes to Metta World Peace.

The NBA star formerly known as Ron Artest (he changed his name in 2011) recently joined the New York Knicks and decided it would be wise to dive into the heart of New York by taking the Subway.

As Metta World Peace settles back into his native city as a member of the Knicks, he decided to take public transportation. The new Knicks star was spotted on the F train heading to Madison Square Garden for his team's season opener instead of doing what most players would do, which would be taking a car.

"This," he said, as quoted by Newsday, "is something I've always wanted to do."

Of course, it isn't necessarily anything new for him since he was born and raised in Queens. When Artest was a teenager he was playing alongside Lamar Odom in New York and eventually went on to play basketball for St. Johns.

In his career dating back to 1999, Artest has played for the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and finally is in his first season with the Knicks.

The 6-foot-7, 33-year-old forward built a reputation early on, most notably in 2004 when he was involved in the infamous Pacers-Pistons brawl that led to him running into the stands after a fan threw a drink at him. This was one of multiple times that Artest was suspended by the NBA. In 2007, Artest was arrested for domestic violence and was subsequently suspended for seven games.
