Radamel Falcao to Chelsea Transfer News 2015: Will Baffling Move Work For Both Sides?
In one of the most curious moves in recent memory, Radamel Falcao will get a second chance in England. This time it will be with Chelsea.
The Colombia striker had a failed season at the Old Trafford as a member of Manchester United. After just scoring four goals, many expected him to go back to Monaco and accept a smaller role elsewhere.
Instead Jose Mourinho is putting his money where his mouth is and helping the Colombian.
"If I can help Falcao reach his level again, I will do it," said Mourinho according to BBC. "It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United."
In Mourinho's defense, Falcao was limited in his role for the Red Devils under Louis van Gaal, but the Colombian has not taken his chances to shine as part of Colombia's nation side either.
In the team's first Copa America game, Falcao was a ghost with less than 30 touches in the game and no shots on goal. He has never been a fast forward, but his lack of mobility reached a new low and he did not make up for it with his usual display of skill and intelligence.
More problematic is how Falcao would regain his form at Chelsea when he is unlikely to play that often. Diego Costa is the main man at the Stamford Bridge and his 38 goals make it clear that he should continue with that role up top.
Mourinho does not fancy a formation featuring two strikers and unfortunately for Falcao that is not likely to change any time soon. Of course the exception would be the Colombian putting up the performance of his life in Chelsea's sweater and at least making Mourinho consider the options.
It would be an interesting proposition considering Falcao's creativity coupled with Costa's brutish force and speed.
Or it could result in Falcao riding the pine yet again and see his 30th birthday pass him by as another failed experiment.
