'Veep' Season 5 Spoilers: Will Selina Meyer Become President?
"Veep" creator Armando Iannucci recently talked about election night on the Season 4 finale ahead of next season's premiere.
HBO renewed "Veep" for Season 5 where fans will finally get to see who will be the next president, Cinemablend reports. Will Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) win the seat?
In the Season 4 finale, Vice President Meyer ran against interim president Bill O'Brien (Brad Leland). The Electoral College was locked at 269 resulting in a tie for the two components.
Iannucci talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the ending of "Veep" and his last day working on the show.
"On the final night, I wanted to look at the fact that there is complete gridlock in the country in terms of the political dialogues ground to a halt," Iannuci said.
"[It's] a country evenly divided between two camps that will not cooperate with each other, and the best way to illustrate that was having an election-night cliffhanger that actually led to complete stalemate."
Iannuci said goodbye to "Veep" after the Season 4 finale to let fresh ideas take over.
"You end up overcooking ideas, heightening [them] because you try to stretch things. I fired myself off the show," he said. "It shouldn't be me doing the next [season]. I like the idea of going out on a high other than when you've exhausted it to its absolute final [breath]."
Showrunner David Mandel is talking over the show beginning in Season 5.
Where will the series turn once Mandel takes over? If Meyer loses the election, fans might see her opening her own lobbying firm with Ben (Kevin Dunn) in order to compete with Dan (Reid Scott) and Amy (Anna Chlumsky). Or she might just leave politics completely.
The show has won three consecutive Emmy awards for Dreyfus and has racked several other awards in the show circuit. Let's hope that Mandel keeps that streak going.
