Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne is not afraid of taking on challenging roles. His most recent project, "The Danish Girl," has him playing artist Lili Elbe, who is said to be the very first person to undergo gender reassignment in 1930.

The newly released official poster of the film features the stunning transformation of Redmayne to play his transgender character, with the talented actor looking the part of womanly grace in the 1930s. With him in the image is Alicia Vikander ("Ex Machina") who plays his wife, Gerda Wegener. The tagline of the film read, "Find the courage to be yourself."

Directed by Tom Hooper, "The Danish Girl" is a touching love story of married artists Einar and Gerda Wegener, whose lives are irrevocably changed when Einer made the decision to undergo surgery and be the world's first transgender. Joining Redmayne and Vikander in the cast of the extraordinary screenplay are Matthias Schoenaerts ("The Drop"), Ben Whishaw ("Skyfall"), and Amber Heard ("The Rum Diary").

In a statement to their official website, Focus Features' CEO Peter Schlessel talked about the heartfelt biopic saying, "In the tradition of Focus' history of epic and moving love stories, 'The Danish Girl' promises to be unforgettable."

For award-winning actor Redmayne, tackling the story and the issues that come with it was eye-opening. In an interview with Out Magazine, he shared the most important lesson he learned about gender from his most challenging role yet: "That it's fluid, I suppose. And also that it needn't be labelled."

Before being tapped to play transgender pioneer Elbe, he was not aware of her extraordinary story.

"I knew nothing about it, going in," he explained to Out Magazine, although he got the message of the film immediately. "It felt like it was a piece about authenticity and love and the courage it takes to be yourself."

Redmayne, coming off an Oscar win for his role as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything," is set to wow again in this relevant film. It is the second time the actor has joined forces with director Tom Hooper after the classic "Les Miserables" movie. Hooper is a fellow Academy Award winner for his work in directing the acclaimed "The King's Speech" in 2011.

The official trailer for the much-anticipated film is set to hit the net on September 1, according to Just Jared.

"The Danish Girl" is slated for release on November 27, 2015.
