Singer Shawn Mendes announced on Friday that he had exceeded his fundraising goal to help non-profit Pencils of Promise build a school in Ghana.

According to a PR Newswire press release, Mendes exceeded his target of $25,000 through his Represent Campaign to help Pencils of Promise, an organization that has built over 300 schools and educated over 30,000 children in developing countries since 2008.

"I'm so excited we were able to raise enough funds to build a school for the kids in Shia, Ghana," he said. "This means the world to me that my fans joined me and supported such an amazing cause."

Mendes launched the campaign #BuildASchoolWithShawn campaign on Oct. 14 and met 98 percent of that goal after making just one social media post.

The singer asked his fans on Instagram and Twitter to purchase exclusive merchandise, with proceeds going toward Pencils of Promise.

"The funds raised from the Stitches merch will go towards building a school with @PencilsOfPromis ! Tweet #BuildASchoolWithShawn & Ill follow," the Canadian pop star tweeted.

"Shawn has been an amazing partner to Pencils of Promise," said PoP director of marketing Natalie Ebel. "For so many children, a PoP school is the safest most sound structure in their community and Shawn is helping to give more deserving children a safe learning environment."

Mendes has seen a lot success this past year with the release of his album "Handwritten" and the Billboard chart rise of his song "Stitches." The singer toured with Taylor Swift on her 1989 World Tour, and his upcoming March 2016 show at Radio City Music Hall in New York sold out.

The pop singer also recently announced that he will be re-releasing his debut album with brand new songs and a few live tracks as a thank you to his dedicated fans.
