20th Century Fox's marketing machine rolls on as we approach the release of their summer superhero blockbuster, X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Fox has released a series of eight posters to promote the new film (follow the link to indiewire to see them all). Storm, Beast, Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and, of course, Wolverine, are all featured prominently on the promos. Many of the lesser cast members (with the exception of Iceman) are ignored.

Still, you can't blame Fox for failing to fit the film's massive ensemble of mutants on to one poster. Combining the cast of 2011's X-Men prequel First Class, with many of the major players from the original trilogy, Days of Future Past looks to showcase one of the biggest assortment of superpowered individuals ever seen on the big screen. It puts the roster of Marvel Studio's Avengers to shame.

Of course, with so many characters packed in one movie, many fans worry that the film may be trying to tackle too much. Just to give you a sense of what to expect, we have Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), who is sent back in time by Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian Mckellen) in order to prevent a pivotal event that led to the post-apocalyptic, Sentinel infested future the X-Men now find themselves in.

Once in the past, Wolverine seeks the help of a younger Professor X (James McAvoy) and Hank McCoy, aka Beast (Nicholas Hoult). Together they face off against young Magento (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), in an attempt to change history before human time machine Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) loses hold on Wolverine's mind and brings him back to the future.

In addition, you have a load of mutants, old and new, facing off against the murderous Sentinels, such as Storm and Bishop. Oh, and Fox's version of the super fast Quicksilver is tied up in their somewhere.

"I wanted a full cast but I didn't want it to feel forced," said Director Bryan Singer in a print edition of Total Film, "we wanted to make it feel organic, not take a 'kitchen sink' approach but bring together characters with interesting powers."

If anyone can make it work, it's Singer. He directed the original two movies, which revolutionized the comic book film genre. Will Days of Future Past see similar success? We'll have to wait until May 23 to find out.
