Sofia Vergara on vacation

Colombian actress and businesswoman Sofía Vergara has been immortalized with a giant statue in her hometown of Barranquilla. The tribute was unveiled on July 10, the same day the Latina super star turned 53, as she celebrated her birthday on the Italian island of Sardinia surrounded by friends and family—without a boyfriend in sight.

"Barranquilla surrenders at your feet, telling the whole world: thank you for being who you are, thank you for being a Barranquillera," said Mayor Alejandro Char during the statue's unveiling. "What better way to celebrate Sofía's birthday than by honoring her with this beautiful work that represents her joy, charisma, authenticity, and unique spirit."

The statue was sculpted by Yino Márquez, a beloved local artist also known for creating Barranquilla's famous Shakira statue. Márquez has previously paid tribute to other Colombian icons with public monuments, including Joe Arroyo, Pacho Galán, and Esther Forero.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Vergara enjoyed a relaxed, private birthday gathering in Sardinia. Photos shared on social media showed her glowing in a white dress, smiling with close friends and family—but notably, there was no sign of a romantic partner, sparking curiosity among fans.

The statue now joins Barranquilla's growing collection of public tributes to its most internationally celebrated figures, reinforcing Sofía Vergara's legacy not just as a global star, but as a beloved hometown hero.

The creation of Sofía Vergara's statue took seven months and required the support of 35 people, including students from the District School of Arts, directed by the sculptor. The artist did not pose in person; instead, Márquez's team used photographs to create the mold for the statue.

The work of art measures 5.2 feet and weighs more than 5 tons. It is located on the Gran Malecón of Barranquilla, the authorities' commitment to revitalize the city, partly thanks to local and international tourism .

Sofía Vergara's birthday

The artist has said she will visit her statue in the near future. However, she chose to celebrate her 53rd birthday in Europe, after participating in a coveted event organized by the Four Seasons Hotels, which was also attended by Ricky Martin, Anitta, J Balvin, and Naomi Campbell, among many others.

For her party, the Colombian star chose to gather with a small group of loved ones and celebrate privately on the island of Sardinia. Guests included her son Manolo, her business partner Luis Balaguer, her friend and collaborator Alejandro Asencio, and her close friends from Los Angeles.

Her rumored boyfriend, Douglas Chabott, was absent, as was Tom Brady , with whom she has also been romantically linked.

Sofia, as always, was radiant and, as always, embracing life with intensity and full of joy. Happy birthday!
