Real life Tony Stark Elon Musk made a bold prediction and said that in two years, Tesla cars will be fully autonomous.

According to Motor Trend, Tesla Motors just released its Autopilot feature, but according to owner and CEO Elon Musk, two years from now, his company will be making an announcement that it has produced its first fully autonomous vehicle.

Musk said in an interview from Fortune, "We're going to end up with complete autonomy, and I think we will have complete autonomy in approximately two years."

Musk then continued to say that he thinks Tesla already have all the pieces, and it's just a matter of refining those pieces and putting them in place, in addition to making sure that they work across a huge number of environments.

Although he did not provide specifics on an upcoming autonomous Tesla car, it's clear that his timeline has changed because 15 months ago, he said that it could take five or six years to manufacturer a fully autonomous car.

It seems that major things have changed due to the drastic timeline cut of Musk's projection.

It's important to note that Musk is talking about a "level 4 autonomous vehicle" Electrek has learned. This is what The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration described as a "vehicle designed to perform all safety-critical driving functions and monitor roadway conditions for an entire trip," with the option to be occupied or not.

Musk also reiterated that when he said "level 4," he meant that level 4 autonomy with the probability of an accident is less than that of a person driving a car.

When speaking regarding commercial availability, he predicted that regulations could take between 1 to 5 years, depending on the jurisdiction. However, just like it is the case for Tesla's current generation of Autopilot, the company will likely include the technology in all vehicles for it to be enabled via software update once it's ready.

Moreover, a hacker identified as George Hotz recently appeared in an article and said that he had built his own version of a self-driving car and said that Musk even proposed to give him a lucrative contract if his technology outshines Mobileye's.

But Musk just dismissed the claims and rebutted Hotz challenges about autonomous cars. But the Tesla Motors CEO just explained the differences between what Tesla is doing and Hotz's version of the self-driving car.

He went on to say, "George is an amazing hacker, but you don't make production software by hacking. A hack does not work, a hack crashes."
